M.A. Extraction Algorithm

How the extraction works

The algorithm continuously measures how similar a pair of channels is, moment to moment, and uses that to steer how much Differential Mode it derives from the channel difference. It is the bridge between the world's existing recordings and M.A. playback.

  1. Measure channel similarity.

A normalized cross-correlation runs on any two channels of a stereo or multichannel program – L/R, or any pair within 5.1 / 7.1.

  2. Form the difference signal.

A push-pull generator produces the Differential Mode base from the difference of the two channels.

  3. Steer the gain by correlation.

A similarity-controlled gain stage adapts the Differential Mode moment by moment as the music changes.

  4. Or ship it as metadata.

The original channels travel untouched, plus compact metadata – Differential Mode is rendered on the playback side. Streaming-friendly, fully backward compatible with every existing player.

Whole-catalog coverage

Stereo and multichannel convert directly in DSP. Mono and historic recordings – which carry no channel difference to work from – are upconverted through a studio re-amp workflow: played back through M.A. systems and recaptured with Triple Microphone Units into immersive formats such as Atmos and 22.2.

Benefits

  • No new format, no remastering for stereo and multichannel content
  • Built from standard DSP primitives – licensable as a software block, no special silicon
  • Scales from earbuds and head units to soundbars and AVRs
  • Metadata path keeps full backward compatibility with every existing player

Applications

  • Streaming services and codecs
  • Automotive head units and amplifier DSPs
  • Televisions and soundbars
  • AV receivers and processors
  • Catalog remastering – stereo extraction & mono re-amp upconversion
